Welcome to Krakow

Welcome to Krakow - a city enveloped in morning Vistula fog, a former capital of Poland, a city that is quirky, magic and of extraordinary beauty. A huge dragon which used to live here is nowadays Wale‘s emblem. It is this city that the first astronaut set off from on a journey to the Moon. The Lady with an Ermine portrayed by Leonardo da Vinci meets connoisseurs of art in one of Krakow’s museums. It is here where Nicolaus Copernicus invalidated the geocentric model, Goethe started writing “Faust” and Karol Wojtyla – a future Pope studied at Jagiellonian University. Famous Helena Rubinstein – one of the richest woman in the world, the queen of cosmetics was born in Kazimierz - one of Krakow’s districts.

On the biggest medieval market square in Europe you can find Lajkonik capering around as a reminder of winning a victory over Tatars. Over the same square you can also hear a bugle call sounded every hour from the tower of St Mary’s Church by a firefighter; it has always been an inspiration for poets. In the horiozn you can notice Slavic pyramids, a net of dungeons and underground passages streches under your feet. Taking all these extraordinary facts into consideration, can anyone be surprised that it is Krakow where adrenaline – the hormone of emotions was discovered? You won’t find all these anywhere else in the world!

In Krakow’s emblem there is a wide open gate – feel welcome in our city!

Let me - before I leave...
look once more at Krakow, the Krakow where every stone and every brick is dear to me and I will look from here at Poland...
